Over the past 2-3 weeks my cars been running a bit strange (lack of power) i had previously cleaned egr valve and this solved that issue, which made me think its this again.. However over the past 2-3 days my car was struggling to keep the revs up when i came to the car each day. gradually after about 30 seconds it would idle correctlyThe EGR valves on the 1.9 CDTI have been known to clog up with soot which can lead to their failure. A new EGR will cost you around £100 when it fails, so a little clean every now and then won’t do any harm. Remove the engine plastic cover. Locate the EGR Valve. There is an electrical connector on the left hand side of the valve.

I get the P0401 code all the time (restricted air flow to egr ) , I also have a 16cdti ,I cleaned out the metal looking Flexy pipe at back of engine right hand side , it did help for about 1000 mls but recently popped the code up again thinking about spending £110 on a terraclean.
No problem, I'm not sure if your aware but you don't need to remove your timing belt to remove the high pressure diesel pump. Rotate the crank to bring the two small pulley holes into line with the two m6 threaded holes in the aluminium backplate and then use 2 of the timing belt cover bolts to lock the pump pulley in place on the backplate.
