Well, I'm sure that this Mopar oil has the friction modifier in it, as this gerodisk in t-case is the same as with vari-lok axles. I'm also sure that there has to be some alternative, but we just don't know it- I don't believe that Mopar developed their new oil.
Reason I ask is that I have a 2003 WJ with the Merc 2.7 CRD and auto that is intermittently slipping when cold then it works reasonably well. Very occasionally (say once every 2 to 6 weeks) it will go into limp home mode and wont change above 2nd gear. . 469 154 51 103 95 102 461 161
